Biography
A carpenter by trade, he quickly rose to the head of his father-in-law's company and made it grow and prosper over the years. An amateur fencer and bibliophile, he collected contemporary editions, either through bibliophile societies or by financing them himself, and had his volumes bound in sumptuous covers, with a marked preference for the creations of Marius Michel. He offered Les Amis des Livres illustrations for the menus of their monthly banquets, for which he acquired copper plates from contemporary etchers, including several by Brouet. These five plates were then published by Jean Alexis and Henri Petiet in the 1920s.
